Coach House History
The Coach House was originally built in 1860 as a gentleman’s residence, when coach and horses were the mode of transport. The outbuildings at the rear housed the horse and carriage. The Reverend Walter Weston lived in this house from 1861 to 1880 . He is renowned in Japan as a world famous mountaineer who introduced Alpine Climbing to the Japanese. There is a bronze relief in Kamikochi where Weston’s Day is celebrated every June.
